The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that “each year there are between 8,000 and 18,000 cases of Legionnaires’ disease in the United States and that more than 10% of these cases are fatal.” Many experts in the industry will agree that the best way to prevent the risk of legionella is to implement a proactive water management approach. If water management programs are well maintained, then risk for legionella growth can be greatly reduced. A water management program may be a sufficient standalone for some situations, but program effectiveness can only be truly verified through lab testing.
